Soul. The soul of any adventure isn’t found in the apex moment when you reach the summit after a long, arduous mountain climb. It’s not found at the tail-out of a class-5 rapid after finding that perfect line through. Nor is the soul of an adventure found in that moment when you hoist a trophy-size trout in that distant, foreign land. Soul is found in the journey… it’s found in the chase. This is what we believe. Chasing Scale traveled thousands of kilometers, rumbled down endless, dusty, desert roads equipped with rods, reels, kayaks, stand up paddle boards and tequila chasing some of Baja’s finest saltwater fish. We experienced amazing places, encountered incredible wildlife, ate delicious food and met awesome travelers and locals along the way. It was an unforgettable adventure! Ryan even got hitched! Carping on the Flaming Gorge Reservoir in Wyoming is super challenging and, with a little patience and determination, very rewarding! Kayak fishing and SUP fishing were the methods of exploration on this particular trip. We even hooked and landed one beast from the Heron iSUP! There’s nothing quite like being dragged around by a massive carp like a Nantucket sleigh ride! And we didn’t just target carp. The reservoir is home to a myriad of other species including rainbow, cutthroat and brown trout, smallmouth bass, burbot, catfish and kokanee salmon. And if the weather is cooperative, this place is an absolute paradise for the angler in search of remote and pristine fishing pursuits.

Living the Good Life on Lake Powell Chasing Stripers and Smallmouth Bass
With exotic destinations off the table during the COVID-19 pandemic, we find ourselves back at one of their favorite destinations—Lake Powell in Southern Utah. We soaked up the Autumn sun while chasing big stripers, gritty smallmouth bass and finicky carp with fly rods and conventional gear. We lived the good life… away from it all.

Due to travel limitations we couldn’t do a big trip over seas this Fall (2020). Luckily, the good ole US of A has world class fisheries! No need to cross oceans in order to chase incredible fish—they’re right here in our own backyard. In fact, we were on a mission to find a specific species–one of myth and lore. We decided to chase a unique hybrid giant in the great state of Utah—namely Tiger Muskie. We hope you enjoy the vid.
